Beautifully rendered cover featuring Street and Smith's premier crimefighter, the Black Bat. Launched the same year as National Comic's Batman, the similarities between the two characters were so close that a law suit was considered.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for justice, Millionaire war veteran Richard Wentworth became the ruthless vigilante known as The Spider. A grim, frightening stalker of the night, Wentworth was armed with a lethal air pistol and a terrifying vampiric persona, stalking his enemies with obsessive tenacity. Ably assisted by his fiance and a team of trustworthy assistants, he struck down the guilty without mercy, leaving a trail of carnage in his wake. Like many other pulp heroes such as Domino Lady or The Black Bat, The Spider signed his executions with a "Spider Seal" calling card, printing a red-ink spider on the foreheads of his victims.
